What Does the Initial Assessment Inclued at Apex?
We Assess, We don't Guess
What does the initial assessment include at Apex?
Your first visit is a deep dive—usually about 90 minutes—so we can understand your body, your goals, and what’s holding you back.
What happens during the first appointment?
-
A detailed conversation about your injury history, lifestyle, and goals
-
A full movement assessment, including HumanTrak 3D analysis when appropriate
-
Orthopedic, neurologic, and functional testing to get the complete picture
-
A clinical audit process (CAP) to see what treatments your body responds to best
-
Hands-on care (manual therapy, adjustments if indicated, soft tissue work, etc.)
-
An introduction to your individualized rehab plan with exercises you can start right away
Why does it take longer than a standard appointment?
Because we want to make sure nothing gets missed. By investing the time up front, we can identify what’s actually contributing to your pain or limitations and build a smarter plan from the start.
Do I get treatment during the first visit?
Yes—assessment and treatment happen together. We’ll usually start with manual therapy and give you self-directed rehab strategies so you leave with tools, not just answers.
What makes the Apex assessment different?
Most clinics give you 10–15 minutes and a quick adjustment. We spend the time to fully understand your situation, use advanced tools like HumanTrak, and focus on active care so you can get lasting results.
What is the HumanTrak System?
HumanTrak is a 3D movement analysis system developed by VALD. It uses motion-tracking sensors to measure posture, balance, mobility, and movement quality in real time.
Why does Apex use HumanTrak?
Because it takes the guesswork out of assessment. Instead of just watching how you move, we can measure it with objective data. That means we can pinpoint issues faster, create more accurate rehab plans, and show you clear progress along the way.
How does this help me as a patient?
You’ll get a tailored plan built from data specific to your body. You’ll also be able to see measurable improvements—so you know your hard work in rehab is paying off.
Is HumanTrak only for athletes?
Not at all. Whether you’re managing chronic pain, recovering from injury, or looking to stay active, HumanTrak helps us track and guide your progress with precision.
What makes HumanTrak different from other assessments?
Most traditional assessments rely on observation alone. HumanTrak provides precise numbers and visuals, which means fewer assumptions, more clarity, and better results.
Do you Take X-rays?
At Apex Spine and Performance, we are committed to evidence-based, patient-centered care. Unlike some chiropractic practices that routinely use X-rays, we believe this outdated approach does not prioritize patient safety, clinical effectiveness, or ethical considerations. That’s why we don’t have an X-ray machine in our office and instead focus on personalized, hands-on assessments to guide your care.
Why We Avoid Routine X-Rays:
🔹 Minimizing Radiation Exposure – While a single X-ray may be low risk, repeated exposure over time can have negative health effects. We avoid unnecessary imaging to protect our patients.
🔹 Limited Diagnostic Value – For most musculoskeletal issues like back or neck pain, X-rays rarely change treatment plans. Instead, we rely on comprehensive physical exams and patient history to create effective, personalized care.
🔹 Cost-Effective Care – Many clinics use routine X-rays to offset the cost of expensive imaging equipment, passing unnecessary expenses onto patients. We believe in keeping care affordable and using resources wisely.
🔹 Evidence-Based Practice – Research shows that routine X-rays are not clinically justified for common spinal conditions (Jenkins et al., 2018). We follow the latest guidelines to ensure the best possible care without unnecessary imaging.
🔹 Ethical & Patient-Focused Approach – As healthcare providers, we follow the principle of "do no harm." Using X-rays without medical necessity goes against our ethical duty to put patient well-being first.
✅ When X-Rays Are Needed: While we avoid routine imaging, we may refer out for X-rays when there is a clear medical need, such as suspected trauma, fractures, tumors, or infection.
At Apex Spine and Performance, our goal is to provide safe, effective, and research-backed care—so you get the best results without unnecessary tests or added costs.
